Plantar Fasciitis
Pain occurring in the centre of the heel or towards the outside of the arch.
Cause
The plantar fascia are bands of non-elastic bands of tissue that run the course of the arch from the balls of the feet to the heel bone. Their function primarily is to help to support the arch of the foot.
Pain occurs when the arch over elongates and the fascia’s insertion into the heel bone tears slightly producing inflammation and pain.
Treatment
Treatment involves stretching exercises for the calf muscles and the plantar fascia. The foot can then be strapped up to prevent the arch from elongating. If this proves helpful Foot Orthotics can be made for you to prevent re-occurrence of the symptoms.
At The Shand Practice all of our Orthotics are custom made!
