Computerised Gait Analysis

At the clinic our podiatrist specialises in Gait Analysis and Lower Limb Biomechanics. Currently, we use the most up-to date Gait Analysis Equipment available.

Our system, The TOG Gait Scan is a technologically advanced Gait Analysis System. This diagnostic tool has been specifically engineered to assess and diagnose a patients Foot Biomechanics. The system measures the distribution of force throughout your feet during each step, identifying high pressure areas and gait abnormalities.

Along with the TOG Gait Scan we also have a 3D Motion Analysis System. This system enables us to view the patient walking or running three dimensionally. The software enables us to calculate the angles between all limb segments to highlight any mal-alignments. With this we are able to monitor the effect that training shoes/orthotics are having on improving the patients gait.

The following are a list of foot, leg, knee, hip and lower-back problems which are very often caused by faulty foot mechanics.

Mortons Neuroma - Stabbing/shooting pain between your toes (usually between 3rd and 4th toes).

Metatarsalgia - Burning sensation in the balls of your feet (metatarsals).

Heavy Callousing/Corns - Caused by abnormal/excessive pressure loading on a particular area.

Hallux Limitus - Pain/stiffness in the big toe joint. Difficulty in extending the joint.

Hallux Abducto Valgus - Describes the crossing over of the big toe joint and a bony protrusion on the outside of the joint.

Tibialis Posterior Tendinitis/Dysfunction or Midtarsal Strain - Pain in the arch of the foot.

Plantar Fasciitis - pain in the outside of the arch or centre of heel. First few steps in the morning are usually the worst.

Achilles Tendinitis - Pain in the back of the heel/back of ankle.

Recurrent Ankle Sprains - Lateral ankle instability (weak ankle ligaments).

Tibialis Anterior/Posterior Syndrome or Shin Splint - Pain on and around the shin bone (tibia).

Patellofemerol Pain Syndrome - Knee pain resulting from abnormal compression of the knees' cartilage (meniscus.)

Iliotibial Band Friction Syndrome - Tightness/pain on the outside of the knee extending to the outside of hip.

Adductor Tendinitis/Contracture - Pain in the groin region, inner thigh.

Sacroiliac Dysfunction - Lower back/buttock pain.

Any of the above conditions can be caused by poor foot mechanics and respond well to Orthotic Intervention.
